Knight Center graduate assistants

The Knight Center for Environmental Journalism employs graduate assistants whose duties include producing EJ Magazine, organizing the Meeman Archives and assisting with research, workshops and special projects. Meet the 2008-2009 staff:

Andrew Norman

Andrew Norman

Andrew is a first year master's student in the environmental journalism program and is the editor of EJ Magazine. He received his bachelor's in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and worked for more than four years as a managing editor and news writer for alternative newsweeklies in Omaha, Neb. He enjoys news, politics, music and the outdoors. He enjoys playing bass guitar, wake skating and driving a scooter. Contact Andrew at normana5@msu.edu

Mary Hansen

Mary is a returning graduate student pursuing a master’s degree from the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism.  She is a graduate of Marian College in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she earned her bachelor’s in English.  This academic year Mary will be working as a graduate assistant with Lou D’Aria.  Through her assistantship she will work on an environmental documentary project for the Knight Center’s television program “Environment.”  With Knight Center training she hopes to one day work in the television field making education environmental programs.  Contact Mary at hansen75@msu.edu.

Matthew Cimitile

Matthew CimitileMatthew is a second year graduate student in the Environmental Journalism program at MSU and president of EJA.  He received his bachelor’s in history from the University of Tampa.  Since coming to the Knight Center, Matthew has interned for The Nature Conservancy, worked for the U.S. Geological Survey, documented research on endangered seabirds in the Hawaiian Islands and has been published several times in MSU publications and online science publications like livescience.com and nsf.gov.  He will be working on the EJ website and helping to coordinate the Environmental Film Festival and Fair this semester.  In his free time Matthew plays guitar, reads and ventures into the outdoors.  Contact Matthew at cimitile@msu.edu.

The Knight Center for Environmental Journalism is currently accepting applications for fall 2009 graduate assistants. Available positions may include editor and design editor of EJ Magazine. Potential positions may include environmental television and other research assistantships.
